| Romtec Utilities supplied a duplex submersible pump station to developers of the Rough and Ready Redevelopment Project Area in Stockton, Calif. The island in the Sacramento River Delta was once the site of a U.S. Navy supply depot, communications center and ship building and repair facility. The 1,561 acre island includes the Port of Stockton West Complex Facility. The initial phase of this industrial/warehousing development is home to a new 120,000 square foot warehouse and process facility of Ferguson Enterprises, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Wolseley Group. Ferguson is the nation’s largest distributor of plumbing supplies, pipes, valves and fittings and heating and air-conditioning products. It is estimated that the new import and distribution center will bring 30 jobs to Stockton. Ferguson operates on a 28 acre leased site devoted to processing and distribution of domestic and imported steel pipe. It is anticipated that the steel pipe imports of this operation will exceed 60,000 metric tons per year. The new Romtec pumping system handles both sanitary sewer and stormwater flows as well as the possible discharge of water from fire suppression sprinklers in the warehouse. Although the building itself produces minimal sewage from bathrooms and a small kitchen, the combination of rainwater from the building and paved areas generated the need for handling occasional large flows. The terrain and geotechnical characteristics of the island made the area unsuitable for a stormwater detention pond to receive runoff from the building and paved area. The decision was made to combine sanitary and storm flows and have the Romtec lift station pump both to an existing sewer line nearby. Eventually, other buildings to be constructed in the redevelopment project will be connected to the lift station. Future redevelopment projects will be proposed and developed in coordination the Port of Stockton. PDF with DRAWING |
