Romtec Utilities pumping systems collect and transfer process and stormwater at two natural gas-fired turbine “peaker” electrical generation stations of Basin Electric Power Cooperative in Groton, South Dakota.

Romtec Utilities concrete sump and duplex pumps collect and transfer cooling water and site stormwater at five natural gas-fired turbine “peaker” electrical power plants operated by Southern California Edison.

A Romtec Utilities submersible pump system is used to transfer treated effluent from the last treatment lagoon to the headworks when ammonia levels exceed limits for discharge at the City of Brawley, California wastewater treatment plant.

PROJECT DETAILS

The city’s wastewater treatment plant uses a series of lagoons for treatment. Discharge from the plant had very high levels of ammonia at the end of the treatment process, so the State of California Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) required reduction of ammonia level before discharging treated water into the river.

The city’s engineer determined that this could be accomplished by pumping effluent from the last lagoon back up to the headworks and running it through the treatment process again. Romtec Utilities designed and supplied the duplex submersible pump station to accomplish this task. The pumping system is equipped with a flow meter to measure and report the volume of water being pumped.
