Size your pump station

Romtec Utilities can help you size your pump station – choose the right pumps, wet well and force main for your situation.

A big part of pump station design is sizing everything just right to get the pumping job done without under- or over-sizing any part of the pumping system. There are so many benefits:

  1. Best value – Save money in equipment expense, cost of operation, maintenance expense and more.
  2. Electrical efficiency – The right pumps use less power, save money and reduce CO2 emissions.
  3. Less wear on pumps and impellers – Correctly sized pumps wear less and last longer.
  4. Reduced solids build-up – Matching the pump and wet well sizes keeps solids from accumulating.
  5. Optimum force main velocity – Correctly sized pumps and force main ensure best performance.
  6. Best reliability – Pumping systems that are the right size for the job are also the most reliable.

Please use our FREE design services to size your pump station.

How to specify our package pumping systems

Romtec Utilities encourages customers to specify our individually designed package pump systems.

We are certain that specifying Romtec Utilities pumping systems provides many advantages and benefits to public agencies, utilities, industry, land developers and consulting civil engineers. When our customers utilize all the services and complete systems offered by Romtec Utilities, these pump station projects are inevitably far superior by any measure – value, efficiency, reliability, ease of operation and maintenance – compared to alternative designs, bid requests, contracting and construction that could have been chosen.

You can specify a Romtec Utilities package pumping system within public bidding rules.

It is legal to specify a complete Romtec Utilities package pumping system– all structural, mechanical, electrical and communication – or an equal complete system from another package supplier. It is important to recognize that you are specifying a complete package pumping system from a package supplier.

OPTION A: We prepare the bid documents for you

  1. Contact Romtec Utilities to request our free service that prepares your bid documents and ensures that your documents meet all applicable rules. It is quick and easy.
    • Email your drawing title block to romtec3@romtecutilities.com.
    • We will prepare drawings and specifications using your title block, your letterhead and the local governing agency’s standard (if applicable).
    • Receive, review and revise your bid documents using our prompt and accurate service.
  2. Put your project out to bid with complete and precise bid documents that meet all applicable rules.

OPTION B: Use Romtec Utilities Scope of Supply & Design Submittal to define your project’s drawings & specs

  1. Use only the Romtec Utilities Scope of Supply & Design Submittal (SSDS) as the drawings and specifications for the complete package pump station in your project.
  2. DON’T DRAW THE PUMP STATION. Complete drawings are included in the SSDS. Romtec Utilities will supply complete drawings, specifications and other submittal documents for your bid package.
  3. INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS in your request for bids:
    • A package pumping system is required.
    • The package pumping system shall be the Romtec Utilities system, as described in the Romtec Utilities Scope of Supply and Design Submittal, or an equal package pumping system.
    • Any “equal” package pumping system must be designed and supplied by a single-source supplier, defined as a manufacturer continuously engaged, for at least five years, in the production of complete package pumping systems, as well as installation supervision, start-up services and operation and maintenance training for pumping system projects. The single-source supplier shall not be the pumping system installation contractor.
    • The single-source supplier shall supply both the entire design of the package pumping system and all structural, mechanical, electrical and communications equipment in the package pumping system.
    • The single-source supplier shall provide the following additional services: on-site installation advising to the installing contractor and subcontractors, on-site start-up and testing services and coordination with the installing contractor and subcontractors, operation and maintenance training, delivery of operation and maintenance documents.
    • Require that any bidder proposing an “equal” package pumping system shall submit all pertinent documentation to the requesting agency or agency’s representative at least ten days prior to the bid opening date, to allow the agency to determine if the proposed “equal” package pumping system meets all requirements set forth in the request for bids.

You can use Romtec Utilities drawings and specifications.

Although it is not a sure way to get the complete Romtec Utilities pumping system for your project, you can use the Romtec Utilities drawings in your request for bids.

OPTION C: Drop the Romtec Utilities drawings into your title block and write your specifications in CSI MasterFormat

  1. Order the Romtec Utilities pumping system drawings in PDF, DWG or various other CAD formats.
  2. DON’T DRAW THE PUMP STATION. Just drop the complete, unedited Romtec Utilities drawings into your title block.
  3. Produce the specification for the package pumping system using CSI (Construction Specification Institute) format under Division 22 13 43.16 Facility Wet-Well Packaged Pumping Stations. Note: This is part of CSI Division 22 Plumbing and is the way to specify a package pumping system within the standard CSI MasterFormat.
  4. INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS in your request for bids:
    • The package pumping system shall be the Romtec Utilities package pumping system described in the drawings and specifications, or an “equal” package pumping system.
