An Innovative Solution
to Building Capacity Megan Monson, Storm Water Solutions, June 2007 Three years ago, officials in Union City, Calif., got some good news—and some bad news. The good news was that a developer was interested in building two major residential developments near the center of the city. The bad news? The storm drainage infrastructure in that area, the Line M channel, did not have the capacity to handle the additional runoff that the new construction would generate... With Line M at capacity, there was no way of discharging additional, and that meant no development of any kind on the Union City site. See project details in website page... The Power of Pumps - A
Flexible Solution in Santa Barbara, Calif. Dan Rafter, Stormwater, May 2007 The City of Santa Barbara, CA, used pumps to improve the municipality’s summer water quality. The goal behind the program? Pumping systems would divert polluted runoff from storm drains quickly into sanitary sewers. The water could then be funneled into the city’s treatment areas, where the pollution and bacteria would be stripped away. Read more about this stormwater pumping system in Stormwater Magazine. Pre-engineered
Wastewater Lift Stations Part of California City's Growth
Plans The City of Shafter, CA relies on pre-engineered wastewater lift stations to prepare for growth. Megan Monson, Water & Wastes Digest, April 2007 Shafter, CA is a growing city with a vision for the future. Located near the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley, about 10 miles northwest of Bakersfield and just two hours north of Los Angeles, the town of 14,000 is quickly adding residents. Gravity
Boosters Rob Kundert, Land Development Today, March 2007 Custom crafted pumping stations are one company's answer to a reality of modern development - gravity is losing ground as the prime mover of wastewater. "The easy land has been built on," a simple truth according to Mark Sheldon, Vice President of Marketing for ROMTEC Utilities, a southern Oregon-based manufacturer of pre-engineered lift stations. "Many, if not most of the residential and industrial developments going on today require some form of pumping to get to a point where gravity can then carry it." A Package Deal -
Sewer-system bundles enable a Washington city to meet
complex challenge. Megan Monson, Public Works Online, February 2007 Expanding rapidly to accommodate retiring baby boomers, Camas, Wash., had a stressed, aging sewer infrastructure that required replacement or refurbishment of many sections and substantial investment in new systems. With site limitations thrown into the mix, keeping the sewer system healthy required an innovative solution, which engineers found in a pre-engineered lift-station package. Clean Creeks - A pilot
program helps the City of Santa Barbara improve
summertime water quality by diverting polluted runoff
from storm drains to sanitary sewers Megan Monson, Municipal Sewer & Water, October 2006 Santa Barbara, Calif., is a popular place in the summer: Residents and visitors flock to the city's wide beaches and natural creeks. During the warm months, people also irrigate their lawns, wash their cars in the street, and hose off sidewalks and parking lots. That's a problem. See project details in website page.... Eliminating a Lake in
the Desert Stormwater, March/April 2005 Public works officials in Clark County, NV, had a situation: Adverse gravity conditions were causing an urban stormwater detention pond to drain improperly, leaving standing water over a 10-acre area. Their solution? To install a pre-engineered package lift station at the Desert Inn Detention Basin that pumps the last of the water in the basin to the elevation of the existing storm sewer main lines.
