Transportation Flood Control – Railroad Underpass in Chicago Suburb
| Stormwater Lift Station | |
| STORMWATER COLLECTION AND PUMPING PROJECT DETAILS Public works and railroad officials in the village of Franklin Park, Ill. had struggled for decades with at-grade railroad crossings on Grand Ave. The solution – consolidation of rail lines on a new overpass with the street crossing under – created a low spot that would have caused flooding of the street, were it not for the storm water collection/detention/pumping system that was installed along with the rail and street improvements. Romtec Utilities worked with the project engineer to design and supply a stormwater pumping system that receives water from large – 22,000 cu. ft. – underground storage culverts to which the underpass storm drains are connected. The pump station force main discharges to a combined sewer, about 1000 feet away. Click here to read about this project in Urban Water Management. Click here to read more in TechNotes newsletter.
